Akin's foundation
Improving life on step at a time
Lets discuss issues about mental illness, disorder, and other discombobulations
Our Mission
Making The World A Better Place
Akin’s foundation is set up to draw attention to a prevalent mental health condition that has plagued our generation and devastated a good number of youths but yet is often difficult to diagnose and treat.
This situation is in part due to the society’s perception about how to treat people with this condition and in part due to lack of knowledge about the issues surrounding the condition.
Major depressive disorder(MDD) alias Depression, is a mental disorder characterized by at least a 2weeks history of low mood, severe and persistent enough to interfere with one’s daily life function. Statistic available globally suggest that it occurs in 20% of women and 12% in men.
What Depression is and is not.
In depression, there is a change in the daily functions of the affected person. For example a person who would eat heavily may start to eat less and vice versa. The condition can be diagnosed using the Diagnostic Structural Manual (v) criteria listed below:

D) No history of manic or hyper manic episode
There are about 4 different subtypes of depression;
1: Postpartum depression(after birth changes)
2: A typical depression(mood reactivity)
3: Melancholic depression (no interest, feels life is not enjoyable)
4: Dysthymia depression (long term (for 2years))

- Environmental factors (Death, Abuse, Divorce
- Family support (show love and concern.)
- Physical activities (exercise, outing, dieting)

Be Loyal to Your Future, Not Your Past
When you stay loyal to a version of yourself that no longer exists—the one who was hurt, the one who failed, the one who was overlooked—you are still choosing. You are choosing to let one moment in time define the whole arc of your life. And that choice costs more than it keeps.

Before the Flood
A tipping point in business is the critical threshold where small, consistent efforts and favourable conditions trigger a much larger market response. It is the point where growth changes character.

The Culture You Ignore Will Cost You Everything
Culture is not static. It is not a problem you solve once and move on from. It is a living,
breathing, constantly evolving dynamic that reflects the collective experience of every
person in your organisation. The question is not whether your culture is changing. It is
whether it is changing in the direction you intend — or drifting somewhere you cannot
afford to go.
